Cabana Bay Resort

Recently on our stay at Universal Orlando Resort we had the privilege of staying at the Loews Cabana bay Resort. This hotel is a very nice hotel with a 50’s and 60’s Florida feel to it. The theming of this hotel is above and beyond what I have seem in many theme park resorts. Cabana Bay is located next door to Volcano Bay as well as two sister hotels that are on Universal Orlando property.

As we enter the lobby of Cabana bay you will notice that this lobby is spacious and well laid out. As we started the check in process we verified all our information. Then as the check in clerk took my cell phone number she proceeded to send me a test text to my phone. You heard me correctly a test text.

This is by far one of the coolest things that universal is doing in their hotels is allowing you to text the front desk or them to text you. Several times we were able to text the front desk for more towels and soaps. One day we were coming back from Universal Island of Adventures I was able to text the front to get more towels as we forgot to order them before we left that morning.

One interesting part of the texting to the front desk I want to point out is on one of our last night we had some very noise neighbors. These are the type of neighbors that you ask to leave the hotel. As I lay in bed I really did not want to get out of bed to call the front desk and possibly wake up everyone in the room. So, I preceded to get my phone and text the front desk where they were able to contact security and have them take care of the situation for us.

Next lets talk about dining. Cabana Bay has the Bayliner Diner. This is your main dining area for Cabana Bay. They serve everything from Breakfast to dinner. The portion sizes we nice and the food we had was actually fairly good for a hotel restaurant. Both my daughter and me are picky eaters, so with even being pick there was something for us at every meal. The diner also utilizes the Coke freestyle machine so you have a ton of drink choices. The resort also has a full service restaurant at the Galaxy Bowl Restaurant where you can grab some, burgers, pizza, wings all made to order. The resort also has several watering holes were you can relax and get your favorite cocktails.

If you like to relax Cabana Bay has two pools as well a relaxing lazy river that will allow you to relax in style. Cabana Bay also host a bowling alley onsite on the second floor called Galaxy Bowl. The bowling alley offers 10 lanes of bowling fun. For those of your family who enjoy a good workout before going to the parks can visit the Jack LaLanne Physical Fitness Studio. This fitness studio is complementary to all resort guests. One of the last great things of staying at Cabana Bay is being able to rent a pool side Cabana. The Cabana is located in the Cabana Courtyard and comes with a armoire, table with four chairs, two cushioned lounged chairs, a stocked refrigerator with four bottles of water and a personal safe. You can also enjoy a personal LCD TV and a in-house phone to order delivery pizza and more.

I can say that as a frequent traveler to Orlando and as one who has stayed at several Disney Resorts, I can say Universal has stepped up their hotel game. For a long time I would have been the guy staying at an offsite hotel and just driving to the parks and then back to the hotel. But after we stayed at a Disney Resort for the first time it totally changed my opinion of staying on property. I held Disney resorts to the gold standard of what a theme park resort should be. But after staying at Cabana Bay I can say that my family will be staying at a Universal Resort in the future. Not only are the hotels newer and have great theming but the offer a great value for your money. One last perk if you happen to stay at Cabana Bay when Volcano Bay is open is that there is a walking path from the hotel to the theme park. This was a nice 10 minute walk to the front door of the park.
